"Psyche"

Size: 11” x 7” x 3.5”

Medium: Raku clay, wire, acrylic paint, stain

Sale Info: Not for sale

Artwork Description: This mixed media mask is my take on the Greek myth of Psyche. Psyche is a goddess of the soul who possesses the anatomy of a butterfly and a human. Venus was envious of her beauty and orders her son, Eros, to shoot Psyche with one of his arrows so she will fall in love with an unattractive man. However, Eros and Psyche fell deeply in love as a result of Venus’ wish. I wanted to reimagine the look of Psyche yet still encapsulate her symbolism of metamorphosis and enchantment.

Artist Bio: NJ-based contemporary artist, Hannah Vargas, attempts to rationalize the human experience through mixed media. She works endlessly to establish a unique style to share her story with an audience that craves to empathize with the ambiguous feelings of simply existing. Her work features bold colors, mixed media exploration, and personified forms. She is a junior art education major at Kean University who will become a certified K-12 art teacher. Her work is currently on view at Bowery Art Collective, Metuchen NJ, as well as Hamilton Street Gallery, Bound Brook NJ in addition to the Spring 2022 edition of the online poetry journal, "Night Heron Barks".

"Clairvoyant"

Artist: Hannah Vargas

Social Media: hannah.vargas.art on Instagram

Size: 10” x 7” x 6”

Medium: Stoneware clay, stain, jewelry, glass

Sale Info: Not for sale

Artwork Description: This mixed media mask represents a spiritual awakening after a period of grief. At times, grief can make us rethink our spirituality or the relevance of something bigger than us. We feel lost and try to look to anyone or anything for some sort of guidance and reassurance. The viewer acts as the person being read by the clairvoyant as they stare into the crystal in the clairvoyant’s palm.
